In a couple of weeks, my very last baby will be turning 1 year old. This is a huge surprise to me. I’m still trying to dig myself out of my postpartum fog. There are so many things that moms do with their infants that I still didn’t get the chance to do.
Even though I take dozens of pictures of my son every day, I never did get around to doing the social media pics that show his growth every month days with a cute little sign.
He started crawling before I could go to a mom-and-me event just for mamas and pre-mobile babies.
I ran out of time.
I don’t remember the first year going by this fast with my first child.
All is not lost, though. I still have two weeks. Before my baby turns 1, there are a few things that I’m going to hustle to do.
Get professional pictures of the whole family.
We already have beautiful pictures of my husband, daughter, and me. While we do have pictures with the baby, many of them are blurry or cellphone pictures that don’t really do our family justice. Even if I can’t get an appointment with a photographer in the next couple of weeks, I will set up my fancy digital camera on a tripod, plan some complementary outfits, and snap a million pictures until we have at least one good one.
Take a print of my baby’s hands and feet.
Nothing is cuter than chubby baby hands and feet. Since my son insists on getting bigger, I’m going to need a reminder of how tiny he once was. I’m getting a simple clay handprint set to memorialize this sweetness forever.
Clean out all of his clothes that are too small.
I don’t know why I haven’t cleaned out my son’s drawers already. Every day I have to sort through tiny outfits that he outgrew months ago. Since I’m not having another baby, and he’s obviously growing up, I am going to let those clothes go so he can start off his new year fresh.
Fill out his baby book.
There is a good chance I will never fully complete my son’s baby book. My daughter’s book is about halfway done and she’s 8-years-old. Still, it makes sense for me to fill out the first few pages while his date and time of birth, birth weight, and some of his firsts are still fresh in my mind.
Since I can’t slow time down, I guess I have to pick up the pace and get these things done before my baby boy becomes a big boy. Wish me luck that I can get it all done!
